Amazing to think that we have already come to the end of the first round of the senior men’s competition    .

I have enjoyed going to several games over the past weeks including watching the first fifteen game last Saturday, when Boys High hosted St Bede’s College.

We had our chances in the game and despite while being behind on the scoreboard for most of the game the team really fired in the last quarter and came home strong but ultimately couldn’t run down their opposition.

The junior rippa day last Wednesday was a pleasure to see. Great to seeing so many kids running around an enjoying themselves. Thanks to all the schools, teachers, parents, grandparents, children, and everyone else associated with the day.

Yellow / Red Cards issued:

A major concern for us all is the continued issuing of yellow and red cards especially in the men’s competition. The Union and judicial have issued statements over the past two weeks regarding this aspect of the game and we ask all concerned that we all take the appropriate steps to be more accountable and responsible. Player safely is paramount, and we need to safeguard everyone’s well-being. A massive thank to our referees and officials who are administrating the playing of our game, there have been some challenges over the past month or so, but we all fully support you.

Mother’s Day Winners:

Congratulations to the following mum’s that received a gift box from Barkers:

James’s mum.
Judy Chamberlain.
Connor’s mum.
Lachlan’s mum.

A massive thank you to Jess and the team at Barkers of Geraldine for assisting us with our Mother’s Day promotion along with all the entries received.

Trust Aoraki South Canterbury Sports Awards:

On Friday night serval of us associated with South Canterbury Rugby had the privilege of attending the awards evening and what a night it turned out to be for rugby.

Rippa Rugby

Fantastic Event with 28 teams entered, 80 games and organised chaos. The day ran well thanks to Jase organising the draw, Tristram for running the timekeeping and Danielle, Libby, Ella and Bailee being the runners for the ref’s. We also could not have hosted this event without the Timaru Boys High students who turned up and refereed all day. Thanks also to all the schools and players, great to see the passion is still there for our rippa day.

Congratulations to the four schools who have qualified for the next stage, the Subway Cub held on the 14th of June in Mid Canterbury.

Safe Spaces South Canterbury Workshop

There was a very successful workshop hosted by SC Rugby at the SC Net Ball centre on Tuesday 16th of May. We had 9 keen people there to hear how they can contribute to safeguarding and create safe spaces to people to grow. If you are interested to hear more, please contact tristram@scrfu.co.nz

Diversity and Inclusion

SC Rugby will soon be exploring applications for a Diversity and Inclusion sub-committee. This committee is to help us make continuing improvements to the South Canterbury rugby environment for all. Letters will be sent to the different communities that make up South Canterbury Rugby.

Referee’s

Our SC Referees have been working hard to get games filled each week. This is not always possible and at times this year (and beyond) coaches may need to be asked to referee their own games. If you or if you know of anyone keen to take up the whistle, please contact tristram@scrfu.co.nz

Fraser Park Update

Thanks to Cam McBride for recording our progress. It will be great in times to come to look back and see what has been achieved.

As you can see we are making progress. The building platform has been formed and is almost ready for the first concrete pour. The trees that were felled have been cleared by club working B’s and those clubs will use them for firewood fundraisers.

We are continuing to seek the final funds for this significant project. Recently we were successful in securing $5,000.00 from the Aoraki Foundation. Donations continue to come in and we are very grateful. The fundraising auction is a work in progress and we will keep you up to date on when and where.
